Any reason to get something other than iPhone 2G for Tmobile?
#1
My understanding is that one can only achieve Edge speeds when using any iPhone with Tmobile, so is there any compelling reason to get something better than the 2G if it's only going to be used with Tmobile?

Thanks.

If you're actually planning to do any web browsing, you'll really want something else.

I used an iPhone 2G on T-Mobile. EDGE speeds are terrible. The 3G devices aren't that great(the Nexus One is alright though), but 3G blows the pants off EDGE, and that's what makes it worth it.

I actually have a Mytouch 3G with Tmobile. It's a pretty good phone, but I find that I don't use 3G that much. Mainly use the phone itself and text messages and occasionally the maps, GPS, etc. Just don't like paying that $25/month for the data plan.

What kind of data plan can I/do I get from Tmobile to at least have internet access on an iPhone (albeit Edge only)?

Ask for the $10/m "non-smartphone" plan. No iPhone can use TMobile USA's 3G.

2G is ok for email and light web browsing MRF'ing, but not for streaming anything. Its the 4th one down.

Rolando is correct, no iphone can utilize the 3G network on T-Mobile. Stuck at Edge speds, which is fine by me.

Does the 3G have any add'l features that are usable by a Tmobile SIM that would make it a better purchase vs. the 2G?

Nothing additional for T-Mobile. But the 3G does add true GPS and is faster and supports iOS4 (albeit with a few features missing). 3GS is faster again, adds the compass and full support for iOS4.

I've been using a 3G on T-Mobile. Went for the 3G mainly for the GPS.

Yep.
So, you *are* able to use the GPS with Tmobile? So, the *only* thing that wouldn't work with Tmobile on *any* of the iPhones is the connection speed (ie, Edge vs. 3G)?

Have you considered getting the 3GS and going with AT&T's 200 MB, $15 3G data plan? That combined with the 450 min calling plan works out to $55 a month+tax.

How does that price compare to the T-mobile Edge data plan you are considering?

You can get a 3GS for $250 on CL and stay contract free if that is a concern.
