I may have convinced my dad to exchange his 3GS he bought the other day for iP4. But none of the AT&T stores near him have one and "won't" for a month. He called one Apple store and couldn't get through, called another and they don't have any either.
Interesting tidbit—when he spoke to the guy today who sold him the 3GS he was strongly urged to keep it and that iP4 had "a lot" of issues that won't get resolved for another month.
I'm thinkin' the guy got a nice spiff for unloading last year's iPhone and/or he thinks Apple will redesign iP4.

My town of about 70,000 people had about 12 phones available. 4 at each of the AT&T stores in town. It's been almost a month and still they don't have any more. That has got to be a thorn in Apple's side. They could have sold several million more phones if only they were available.

my boss walked into an ATT store at 1030 on the day they were announced and bought one.
he even got a bad one and had it exchanged a week ago.
but like your pop -- there are none here for at least a 50 mile radius -- ATT, apple, walmart, radio shack -- nada.

"the guy got a nice spiff for unloading last year's iPhone" I think you nailed it on that one.
I think it's rare to see phone store guys personally using last years model of anything.

I bought mine at a Best Buy last week. The 3 Apple Stores I tried were all out.

And I imagine there's a push to get rid of old stock, and not a lot of compensation for doing so.
