I am having some meeting in Fort Lauderdale in a few weeks and instead of flying there and then back, I am planning a mini-vacation out of it. I have heard it can be very humid, but I am ok with that.
My wife has coordinated with me so that she will arrive when my meetings are over so we have 3-4 days of time off together.
Where would you go to, other than to the beaches? Anything that is an absolute must-see/must do?

get drunk on Busch Light, get a bad tatoo, eat watery spaghetti at an "Italian" restaurant, wait in line for an hour to go to some overpriced clubs, pay $10 for a beer at that club, hang out hungover on the beach getting a sunburn, get screwed on the motel room...
oh, wait, you're not going on spring break, circa 1988...?
nevermind.

besides riding the trolley, sitting on the beach and shopping ?
We did a boat tour of Kolbe nature park that was about ten bucks per person. Six Flags scale of about maybe 2. It was something to do.
Interesting to me to see mangrove swamps from the water. Everyone else wanted their afternoon back.
Take pics of cruise ships ?

If you like the beach, you should have them all to yourself this time of year. I was in Lauderdale three years ago in early July, and there were only a handful of people on the beach or even outside for that matter during the mid day hours. Plan to get there early, around 8 am or so. Come 10 to 11 o'clock the heat becomes oppressive. A lot of Floridians loose their tan in the summer because it's too hot to lay on the beach.

Did you stay at the motel where the porch collapsed?
