Recommend an electric shaver?
#1
Have been using electric shavers for about 10 years. Since then, have owned a
couple Brauns that were great and gave really good shaves that were even somewhat
close to a blade. Well, the current shaver is just about on its last legs, so it is time
to start looking again. I do prefer these 'foil' style shavers to a rotary.

Unfortunately, it seems that the workmanship just might not be there anymore in
the mid-level Braun shavers (approx $60) that I am used to buying.
Example: http://www.amazon.com/Braun-3-340-Mens-S..._sbs_hpc_3

Some googling turned up some good info, and the Remington in this list looks nice,
http://www.consumersearch.com/electric-shavers but there are complaints that it is noisy. I've also seen
good things about the Panasonics.

While I know this is all subjective, as not everyone's face/beard is the same, I was
wondering if anyone has any info they can contribute on this front? (please don't
suggest going back to blades, face can't handle the abuse anymore) Smile

thanks!

Have yet to find an electric that can compete with an old fashioned razor, but if one does exist, I'd also like to hear about it. Shaving is a pain in the ... !

The top of the line Panasonics, but only when used wet. Otherwise, too much drag and friction. Nearly as good as a good blade.

I got mine on Ebay for maybe $85.

I think miK is planning on shaving his face.

Norelco shavers have worked well for me, even the cheapest lines.

Aha! As it happens, I raised this very topic back in February:

In the event, I got a Panasonic for c. $100, and must say I'm impressed. It's way better than the aging Braun that I replaced. You can also clean it under water, instead of brushing and blowing. I have not tried using it wet, but some in that thread said that worked well.

I think those who say that no electric is as good as a blade are probably correct, but this Panasonic is pretty good. It's a model no. ES18103.

My dad just bought a new Braun. Admittedly, well outside the price range you are looking for, but I tried it the other weekend, and it really was kinda cool! Also a close shave...

and I doubly agree.

I was a huge skeptic for years and years and that kept me from even trying the newer shavers. I had tried some of the three-wheeled Norelcos from the 1980s and they sucked. My Panasonic allows me to charge it once per week and take it wherever. I have even been known to shave in the car... :>

The one big downside is that the replacement foil and blades are stupid expensive.

Thanks all... and to mrlynn - this one has a model # very similar to yours (ES8103S):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6896200193&Tpk=Panasonic%20ES8103S%20Men%27s%20Shavers

Lots of great reviews and about $80 so not too far off my mark. At least it's not
$100+ like those high-end Brauns with unnecessary cleaning systems! (no offense
to your Dad, Spiff) Smile
