Barney Frank on Obama mistakes
#1
"First, he \"came to office believing that there was such a thing as a moderate Republican wing,\" said Frank. Referring to the tea party movement and other signs of a conservative resurgence, he added, \"I think he underestimated the extent to which what we've now seen come to fruition was already holding onto them.\"

Obama \"said he was going to be 'post-partisan,'\" said Frank, which didn't work, partly because of the tea-party-friendly political climate. The members of Congress Obama would have needed to work with in order to truly transcend partisan divisions faced political pressure not to cooperate with him. According to Frank, \"not even the moderates, but the mainstream conservatives, are frightened\ by the wave of right-wing populism picking up steam around the country. wrote:

You have the numbers and don't need no stinking Republicans. Just pass the dang bill.

"I'm not a great political analyst," he said. "I don't pretend to be." >>

and yet the Globe spun a whole tiny blurb around a tiny section of the interview.

"So, how is that hopey/ changey thing working for ya.

Well, we're never going to admit it was a bunch of bullshit, so we'll just spin the blame onto the opposition. Works all the time.

Obama's mistake, as Frank alludes to, was to not give up on the stupid bi-partisan idea after about three/four months. He should have told the GOP, look I know what you are doing so Fsck You, we are going to stampede right over you and pass all our bills our way. Instead, he lost control of the entire process and ended up looking like a cripple.

sounds about how it went down

No, he should have said fsck you. The fact that he did not really ticks me off.

Exactly. An essential and complete fsck you to the Republican Party in totality was the only true remedy to resolving our issues as a nation. Bills should have been shoved up their obstructionist asses from day one. The fact that he kissed Republican tail and that "still" wasn't enough for them to be cooperative is the proof.

When the Democrats "survive" November, he'll have another chance to do what's necessary.
