National boycott over halal soups? Idiotic.

Campbell's Soup rolls out a line of certified halal soup in Canada. Wingnuts in U.S. declare boycott.

I'm going to go buy me some Campbell's soup. Normally I don't touch the stuff but now I want some.

The halal soups, designated with a special label, are available only in Canada. The company has no plans to offer a similar line in the United States, said John Faulkner, a company spokesman.

That sucks.

Halal is usually a mark of high quality.

Why do you suppose we can't get Kosher and Halal top-brand soups in the U.S.?

August... brilliant on so many levels !

What next ? Can we expect "Goat" to be renamed "Yankee Doodle Animal" ? (Yes, I'm remembering "Freedom Fries" and "Liberty Cabbage" Both equally silly ideas.)

Alright, let's see

Animals slaughtered in the name of anyone but Allah. All that has been dedicated or offered in sacrifice to an idolatrous altar or saint or a person considered to be "divine"[Qur'an 2:173] [Qur'an 5:3]

An animal that has been strangled, beaten (to death), killed by a fall, gored (to death), savaged by a beast of prey (except by a human)[Qur'an 5:3]

Food over which Allah's name is not pronounced (or at least not in a name other than Allah)[Qur'an 6:121]

I'd like FDA to approve Campbell's certification procedure first. It is not enough to just call it "halal" and go home.

Sigh

From the actual ARTICLE

"The halal soups, designated with a special label, are available only in Canada. The company has no plans to offer a similar line in the United States, said John Faulkner, a company spokesman."

ergo, no FDA involvement.
