Popcorn 2 vs Toast
#1
Does Toast do everything Popcorn 2 does? I looked at the product descriptions, and it looks like toast does not make sony psp movies, where as popcorn does. Also, anyone have experience using popcorn to make psp movies? I'm mainly using it for dvd movie backups, but the psp function would be cake. Oh, the reason I ask is that Newegg has toast for 50 some, and popcorn is 40 some (not much diff). Thanks, kj.

Full Toast has both and more on the CD.

Popcorn 2 is a Universal Binary. Toast 7 isn't. So if you convert and burn a lot of video DVDs on an Intel Mac, Popcorn 2 will make a big difference in your encoding times. Actually, I've read that Popcorn 2 encodes video faster on PowerPCs than Toast 7, as well.

I think you can manually configure Toast 7 to encode video with the specs needed to play on a PSP or iPod Video.

Both apps are well worth owning.

Popcorn and Toast are ENTIRELY different products that DO NOT do the same thing. I find it hard to believe you can't be bothered to read the product description pages on Roxio.com.

Chas_m,

I find it even harder to believe that YOU cannot be
bothered to read my previous private messages to you
regarding your consistent difficulties with PMS and
your communication style.

The "Golden Rule" is really quite simple. I suggest
YOU read the description of it at the link below.

http://www.religioustolerance.org/reciproc.htm

While not necessarily in the context of religion,
certainly an examination in the context of interpersonal
relationships, be they on the internet or otherwise.

You would most definitely be served by becoming familiar
with the tenets of this "philosophy" and perhaps improve
your standing within this community, or at least, with
the few who must read the reports of your rude posting
habits on a regular basis.

If the contexts above fail to initiate some synaptic
activity, then perhaps the reminder below will. Feel
free to print and tape to your monitor.

A hammer would adequately do the job unto the testicles, but a vise would be more effective for that particular application. Good analogy for the somewhat overlapping capabilities of Toast and Popcorn, come to think of it...

I read both, chas bud, as well as stf, and I still wanted to ask. It's also really obvious that they do a lot of the same stuff (if you would argue differently, I'd be really interested to see how). In fact, I don't see anything toast won't do that popcorn can, FOR ME. On the forum someone said toast contains popcorn 1, but at that time no one had used popcorn 2, although someone mentioned they were going to buy it. I thought maybe people had used it by now, and knew more about it. Anyway, your response makes no sense at all, so if there is something you are trying to convey, it's not happening. Everyone else, thanks for the input, and don't worry about chas. I'm not that sensitive. kj.

Dry Cleaner: you probably shouldn't insult SS like that. He's sensitive.

kj: read my reply more carefully. I did NOT say that Popcorn and Toast have no overlapping features, I said they are very different programs. Popcorn could be considered a standalone subset of one (minor) aspect of Toast, but to equate them as you did is to say that a Yugo and a Ferrari are both cars, ergo they are the same.

Or, to belabor the car analogy further but make the point more accurately, to say that a car stereo and a car containing a car stereo are the same.

All I was doing was pointing out that Toasts' primary function and Popcorns' are entirely different, thus providing very different motivations for buying them.

I hope that makes things clearer.

KJ,

Toast 7 lacks some of the new features incorporated into Popcorn 2. It contains all the features of Popcorn 1. Overall, if you're happy with Toast 7, then there is no need to purchase Popcorn 2. Stay with it.

That said, you can't really compare the programs because they aren't designed to replace each other. Toast 7 is definitely worth having as it has a significant number of features that cannot be found in Popcorn and, in some cases, iTunes, The OS X finder and other offerings from Apple itself.
