I saw Blazing Saddles at a mall cinema in Columbus, MS when it came out in 1974 & thought it was funny. Lily Von Schtupp singing I'm Tired, Alex Karras slugging the horse, & the campfire scene really stood out in my mind.
Watching it today on DVD, I thought it was incredibly stupid until Madeline Kahn made her appearance. The pace picked up by then & it only got better until the end when Little & Wilder rode off into the sunset in the back of a limousine.
What a movie!

I think that's 36 years.... I just also happened to watch a movie from '74, The Taking of Pelham 123.

"Mongo is just a pawn in the game of life."

I'm laughing my butt off.. because I use that line all the time too..
"Mongo no understand... mongo just pawn in game of life".
If anyone tried to make that movie today, they'd be lynched before the end of the first day of filming.
Mel Brooks is Da Man. (or should that be Da Mencsh.?)

According to Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor wrote all of the lines for Mongo.
