Schadenfreude alert! Dell warns on earnings, stock down 6%
#1
"Dell has been an underwhelming name in technology over the past year, and this is an indication that will probably continue," said Michael James, a senior trader at Wedbush Morgan Securities. "But I also think Dell has become less of a bellwether for technology stocks over the last two years, similar to Intel and Microsoft."

Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

Wouldn't you just love it if Jobs, asked on CNBC about how Dell could turn itself around while pitching the new MacBook said "the best thing that can be done with Dell is to liquidate it's assets, return any money leftover to it's creditors, and shutter it's corporate offices." Booyaa! Karma can be such a b!tch.

Yeah, but HP has not. Dell's stock price is due to Dell being poorly run as of late, not a general take down of the computer sector.

"And compared with some of the competition, in particular
Apple Computer's (AAPL) machines, Dell's products simply don't stand out, further eroding its appeal to customers. While Dell's computers are mostly still plain, neutral-colored boxes, "when you look at an Apple Mac, you want to touch it and bring it home," says Shaw. Dell's big challenge now is getting more shoppers to swoon over its products before its longtime domination over the PC industry slips away more."...partial quote from Yahoo article

HP is doing quite well, thank you.

Check out HPQ vs DELL since about June '05.

Dell is the general motors of the computer world. Build a crappy product, shove it down the public's throat and then offer underwhelming support.
You get what you pay for.

Dell isn't a technology company, It's a retailer. And it's selling it's stuff for lower and lower prices, with lower and lower margins.

It's pretty difficult to make a lot of money that way.

It's a bit more than a retailer, but not much.
