KP yesterday, 3 loud beeps and no startup today
#1
MacBook running 10.5.8. Had a kernel panic yesterday but everything seemed ok after that. Just tried bootin up and am getting 3 loud beeps.

No new software installed but AC put in a new logic board a couple weeks ago.

Any ideas?

Isn't three beeps related to ram? Try reseating the ram.

Will check that when I get home tonight. Thanks!

Pull one, try it, replace and pull the other, try it. RAM usually goes bad one chip at a time.

Also when trying with just one module, try it twice, once in each slot, just in case it's the slot that went bad, not the RAM.

Is this the original RAM or upgraded? If upgraded, and you still have the original, try putting the Apple RAM back in, and if it still fails that way take it in, with the Apple RAM installed so that there is no finger pointing blaming the 3rd party RAM.

And yes, 3 beeps is a RAM error indicator.

Pulled one. Booted then KP when I got to my desktop. Pulled that one and put in the other. Got the 3 beeps and no boot.

Can both chips be bad? One is original and the other is upgraded.

'Could be that you have a bad slot instead of bad RAM.

Try using one slot and then the other to see whether one is working and the other dead.

...

If Apple has replaced the mobo recently then the repair should be warrantied and problems with a RAM slot should be covered.

Ah. Didn't think about the slot. Show ends in 30 minutes then I'm packing it up and driving home. Will report back tonight.
