I know this is a "deals" site but I wanted to give a heads up those interested in this drive. Amazon has it the Vertex 3 SSD available to order, 240GB for $500, 120GB for $300.

120GB

This is NOT a RYF (nowhere close), but this drive is reportedly the fastest SSD tested (over 500MB/s read/write speeds).

How does this compare to the OWC drives? Does it require the computer to have TRIM support?

I am getting the 240GB. I know that it says that. In my experience, they say that to cover themselves (if they said shipping soon, the fanboys would be calling them every 2 hours). Many enthusiast sites are stating that this drive will be available at the end of this month.
With items like this in high demand, those who do not order this week will have to wait a few weeks before it is back in stock. I remember when the 7200RPM drives for laptops were released; I had to wait 2 months to get one (I think I paid $300 for a 60GB drive - at the time, it was worth it).

The charts on this page show how it stacks up against the competition:

Granted the OWC SSD is not compared, yet against the posted speeds for their drive, this one looks faster. AFAIK, this is the fastest SSD available (currently). I don't know about having a computer to have trim support; the new MBP I am using now has it, and that is why I am excited.
I am sure that some enterprising individual will figure out a workaround for older computers that do not natively have trim support.

Which Pro's got that? Only the Thunderbolt ones? I only ask because I have the one right before that and am about to order an SSD in the next couple weeks. I'll probably still get the OWC one, but I am curious.

The OWC and OCZ use the Sandforce controller, which handles a lot of the same duties a computer with TRIM support would handle. It just does it automatically as part of the controller, rather than offloading those duties to the computer/TRIM.
My guess is that OWC will get the same Sandforce controller soon enough, and their speeds will match/beat the OCZ Vertex 3.
I personally would purchase whichever SSD is the best deal. They both use (or will use, once OWC updates their line) the exact same controller, so they should be just about equivalent in every way. The differences may show when it comes to Customer Support or Warranty replacement, but the hardware is very similar.

on reading the spec on Wiki - it indicated that 10.6.6 had TRIM support - but it specified MBP 2/24/11

I've seen different indications that TRIM is currently supported in 10.6.6, but I think it's only with apple-shipped SSD's. I could be wrong, though. It has also been indicated that 10.7 may feature full TRIM support, regardless of whether it's an Apple-shipped SSD. Of course, at this point, any 10.7 rumors are just that...
