ATT Prepaid: iPhone?
#1
is anyone using an iPhone on ATT Prepaid?

I have T-Mobile prepaid, and I don't want to sign a contract. Now that ATT buys T-Mobile, if I were ever to get an unlocked iPhone, could I continue to use it on T-Mobile (soon to be ATT) network? or will they ban it?

The Death Star would eventually force you to buy a monthly data plan, I believe. They cut out all their prepaid data a while back.

The deal is not expected to close for 12-18 months, so who knows what plans will be in effect at the time. Also, no one knows if any plans will be grandfathered in, prepaid or post paid.

From what I've read T-Mobile is going to continue to operate as their own entity even after and if the deal goes through. So you could continue to use an edge only iPhone on TMobile.

One other thing, Tim Cook did say, in a recent interview, that Apple was looking at doing something creative with the iPhone for the prepaid market, so maybe when the iPhone 5 is announced there might be some news of a prepaid version. I would be very interested in that.

I am using an iPhone 3GS on AT&T prepaid (pay as you go). I had it before and just stuck my sim into a used iPhone and it works. You need to change the APN to get data (which is expensive per MB), but it does work and since you pay per usage, if you don't use much data or make many calls, you can have a really low monthly expense.

I'm averaging about less than $15-20/month or so.
