Libya: NATO Strike Kills Son of Gadhafi

"A Libyan official says a NATO airstrike has killed one of the sons of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, and three of his grandsons."

Are his grandsons flying fighter jets??? Manning radar stations?

If we are going to turn this into another Iraq, let's at least be open about it.

I said that weeks ago and everybody jumped on me. I won't be surprised to find out if you were one of them. If not, I apologize.

EDIT: And what is this charade about a "NATO" warplane? They are dropping bombs and don't have the guts to say who they are.

Now what would be the best weapon system to carry out a surgical strike, something small, quiet and with the capability to loiter for hours without putting aircrew at risk before hitting the target.

Hmmm .... sounds like a job for a US Predator drone.

It is a no-fly zone-- but only for Libyans.

Wait. Wasn't the Libyan operations "transferred" to "NATO" months ago? I suppose you could say Obama lied, children died.

When did the US leave NATO?

I thought the US was an integral part of NATO and were only taking a back seat not leaving the campaign completely.

Please let it be clear that i am not defending an attack that resulted in the deaths of civilians, particularly children. I find such an act abhorrent and deeply saddening, no matter who the perpetrators or victims are.

I want only to say that the NATO-led mission (of a coalition that includes NATO and non-NATO countries) is not solely to enforce the No-Fly Zone, but to take action against Qaddafi's forces and resources to protect the people of Libya. The justification (adequate or inadequate) for this airstrike is that the facility targeted was a military resource critical to Qaddafi's command. Again - i am NOT saying that the strike was justified, or effective, or even within the U.N. mandate. I am saying that it was part of a military campaign that is wider than simply enforcing a No-Fly Zone over Libya.

Qaddafi is a despicable man, but no child deserves to die for his transgressions, whether in Misurata, Benghazi, or Tripoli itself.

Yes, the mission is not just a no-fly zone. It is to prevent civilian death. In the mean time, 30,000 people have died since the war began. How many would have died if he took Benghazi? You want to end the misery, you drive up to his palace and nab him. How many times do I have to say it?
