Seems entirely typical of the Kochs. They believe, apparently correctly, that money can buy anything if the price is right.

The Kochtopus strikes again, and FSU has struck a Faustian bargain.

I found this quote from the dean to be almost Orwellian:

"Bruce Benson, chairman of FSU's economics department, said that of his staff of 30, six, including himself, would fall into Koch's free-market camp.

"The Kochs find, as I do, that a lot of regulation is actually detrimental and they're convinced markets work relatively well when left alone," he said."

He's been living under a rock apparently.

The free market and intelligent regulation are not incompatible.

It is after all Florida State University, this might even enhance it's meager scholastic reputation. Maybe if they invested as much of university assets in academics as they do in athletics, they couldn't be as easily bought off.

The university can simply refuse their money. Endowed positions always come with strings and the donor certainly has the right to decide how his money is going to be spent.

This is why we need more News and less crap about Lindsay Lohen and Osama's home videos.

Making this information public knowledge means that prospective students and their families can determine if they wish to be educated by an institution which functions as a Whore. If enough students opt not to participate in the pimping out of the college, then the situation will correct itself.
