cell number porting

I'm seriously thinking the HTC Sensation on T-Mo for June 8th from my iPho 4 with ATT.
Has anyone any experience porting from T to T-Mo?
I know there are supposed to be laws blah, blah, blah.
But do I buy and port with T-Mo and wait; and how long or what?

I switched from ATT to T-Mobile prepaid a few months back. Walked into a T-Mo store, set up a new account and got new SIM. They gave me a temporary phone number to use with the new SIM until the porting was done.

I got a text message about 12 hours later telling me the porting was complete.

Boost Mobile pay as you go took about 6 hours IIRC.
