Can't figure out how to do this in Win XP...
#1
I don't need XP for much, but I use it via Parallels for my billing software. Recently, I have to use a website that requires IE. Easiest solution would be to use a Mac Browser, but each that I try won't load and sends me to a page that says it requires IE.

So, I am using IE 8 in XP, and the site takes me to links to PDFs that I then need to email to someone. When I click on the PDF it opens in IE, and I can't find a way to email it (for email, I use Mail.app). I can't drag the file, because it is in IE. Anyone know of an easy way to accomplish this (without saving it to the desktop and then dragging it to mail... that will work, just an extra step).

Can I assume the window that opens from the link in IE is still an IE window but displays the PDF via the Adobe Reader plugin? If so it should have a URL at the top but the URL bar may be hidden.

So another trick might be to make that page a favorite then get properties on that favorite to derive the actual URL the page is loaded from which you can then email.

Hope that helps.

On the page with links, right-click on the link and do a "save target as" to save the file to your desktop (or somewhere). Then attach the saved file to an email...

At least in IE6 here at work...

right click and save to desktop and then drop in your mail message is probably the quickest and easiest way. That's what I do and wipe clean the desktop clutter every day.

I had a kid working for me that could navigate through the windows heirarchy and drop links and files just about anywhere but it sure wasn't easier IMO. He'd always comment I've used Macs too long. :-)

Mike and Bill,

That's what I ended up doing. Still annoyed that I actually have to use IE... just don't see that very much.

You can also right-click the file on the desktop to email it.

Maybe use Safari's Develop menu to access User Agent to have Safari spoof IE6, 7, or 8?
I'm not sure, but I assume once you're on the desired pdf, that you could mail the link normally from Safari.

Wish Safari worked, but User Agent didn't change anything.
