G+ seems to be feeding into the rampant narcissism that FB and twitter already fuel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwnJ5Bl4kLI&feature=player_embedded ... watching that clip, I thought to myself: just what we need in our society ... more "followers", fewer leaders (the guy who admits that he lacks internal confidence, that really scared me, and overall, I was struck by these people sounding very narcissistic and really self-involved)
Edit: as with most online tools, I do realize that, half of it is in "how you use it". That being said, as tools go, some tools lend themselves more to certain types of behavior than others. I could be completely wrong about this too, since I haven't myself tried G+ yet. Maybe it won't turn into the next FB or twitter. As far as I'm concerned, that'd be a good, and not bad, thing...

On one hand: How can you say you aren't feeling something you've never tried.
On the other: I've never tried wearing panty hose and I don't think I need to.

Good analogy, LOL! I guess what I'm trying to say is, one need not wear pantyhose to know that there are several possible problems with doing so, including runs, varicose veins, unsightly bulges, etc. And not everyone will want to see you wearing pantyhose. Some of us would definitely NOT look good wearing pantyhose. ( 
As for it killing FB, I think that's unlikely just based on the number of users. On the other hand, MySpace seems to have run its course... and competition for users is never a bad thing.

FWIW (and I know it isn't much) FB and Google + aren't any more narcissistic than this place is. For me FB is EXACTLY the same as MRF, except I actually know those people in real life. I have a connection to them, know their families, etc. They know my real name and the things I post there are always in the context of who I am.
Yes, many people accumulate contacts like they are jelly beans, but I don't.
Funny how so many people who hang out at an ANONYMOUS forum claim to be part of a community (something we pride ourselves on here at MRF, no?) yet cast stones at a similar format. (Not that the OP was casting stones...)

dmann, I think there's a significant difference between an anonymous forum, and being part of a true community (which I think MRF is!); and intentionally putting yourself out there on display, and saying "I only want to associate with some people and not others", and "it's all about me, me, me".
Ironically, in certain ways, I think MRF is far more of a community than is anything on FB or twitter. I've seen outpourings of concern here (example, Grateful's recent post) that, in general, I don't see elsewhere. And this coming from (mostly) complete strangers, whereas people on FB or twitter are usually "friends".
And that's a whole other point, how FB and twitter have devalued/clouded our use of the words "friends", "lead", "follow", "like", etc.: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/faceboo...hing/13815

To each his/her own. I actively use MRF, FB and Google + so I feel comfortable commenting on those platforms and how I utilize them. I don't use Twitter so my comments do not include the broadcast only concept.
As I said, for me they are all the same. Others have different opinions, of course. I was simply expressing my own.

My biggest issue with Google+ is the TOS. On one of the photo groups I'm on, someone pointed toward some of the details about Google claiming rights to licensing, etc. I know, shocker coming from the thieves at Google. FB and the like are bad enough about that stuff. If Google wants to be cool about this kind of stuff, I'd consider it. Otherwise, no thanks.
