I watched "Torchwood, Miracle Day" on my DVR last night and I have mixed feelings about how well it will translate to the US???

One of my biggest concerns is about Mekhi Phifer, who plays a self-important CIA agent. His acting and particularly the dialog he's been given are so over the top that I wanted to yell "shut up!" and "get off my screen."

I've liked him in other series but, in this, his character, in a very heavy handed manner, goes around pushing over and through people while proclaiming, "CIA" while holding up his badge like he's been ordained :ohsnap: by the almighty.

As a for instance, he's talking on his cellphone as his commercial flight is getting ready to take off. The flight attendant politely requests that he get off the phone and he ignores her request with an imperial statement that he's CIA. (what an a-hole! :booty: )

Finally, the attendant just reaches over and takes the phone. Yay! for her.

One way or another, I thought his acting was awful and his character was just plain annoying. This is not a good sign.

My personal jury is out on the other new characters and on the writing, but I will stick around for a few more episodes.

What did you others think of it?

BTW, I finally watched the three episodes of Falling Skies that I had recorded and, despite the criticisms I read here on the forum, I have to say that I've enjoyed it, so far.

I'm looking forward to the next episode.

My biggest worry from the pilot is this character. He's almost unbearable; perhaps it's the directing? I don't know the actor.

I have other casting beefs, but am willing to give the series a chance. It's tough to compete with the first series, which really ran right out of the gate with several great characters, not slowing down to explain everything to the viewer (which seems to be a prerequisite for American series'). The pilot of Torchwood: Miracle Day felt really dumbed-down to me.

Crossing my fingers for the series hitting its stride soon!

Confusedigh:

Lemme guess. The plug-in that's required is Intel only, right? I tried four different browsers and the plug-in doesn't work.

I'm limping along on a DP G5 tower. SOL, huh? Happening more and more. Too many other places the dosh needs to go for now. Someday, though... Tongue
