Just ended an eBay auction last night for a 6-month old G4 iBook, 1.33 GHz, 1 GB RAM with iLife ‘06 (original disk included). Just over 7 bills and not one bite. I guess when refurbs are $799 at Apple you’re not going to get too much for these. I thought the extra RAm and iLife '06 might bump it for me.
I think they’re going for 5 to 6 hundred. Ouch! I should have checked completed actions before listing mine. I think I’ll wait until Apple gets refurb MacBooks then take the 5 bills for the iBook.

5 bills? You talk like a 1930's gangster. ;-).

By then, I think you'll have to be very lucky to get $500 for that 'Book.

It's a used ibook, with a processor that Apple no longer favors. If it's six months old, that means you purchased it after Apple announced the end of the Power PC platform. You talk about it as if it were an object of enduring power and value.
Are we missing something?
Five bills is generous. Take the money!

just so you know, i just bought a G4 iBook w/ iLife 06 refreshed from the Apple store for $699. even with the extra ram i wouldn't have gone with a $700 used one since it wouldn't have included a warranty.

This is probably very true. I’m not really interested in how much I can get for the iBook…more what the delta is between a MacBook and the iBook.
The 1.33Ghz iBook had a precipitous drop and will continue a slow depreciation (in my humble speculation). The MacBook’s first price step-function will be in the refurbs. Given the differential rates, depreciation versus a fixed refurb delta, I’m gambling the sweet spot will be the appearance of the refurbs.
I could be wrong on this, but the hunt is half the fun.

Actually, quite the contrary. I pretty much agree with all statements here. Much to my chagrin this machine is not worth what I initially thought. It has depreciated on the used market faster than any Mac I have had and with good reason. I actually would have felt bad had I tried to jump prior to announcement and stuck someone with an immediate $200 depreciation.
That’s the nature of technology and just makes the game that much more challenging, at least in my little corner of the world. Now to get that MacBook for the least pain while giving value to whoever gets mine.

I was thinking of listing my 15-in 1.83 MacBook. You want to see a huge hit? It is down ~$500 since the 1.83 processor was used for--was it weeks or only days? ;-)

I just got back from my local Apple reseller. I wanted to trade a one year old Powerbook 1.67, 100GB HDD, 2 GB RAM for something Intel. Their offer: $650!

Wow. That sounds a little ridiculous. That is about half what it is really worth, I would imagine.
