Loving my Airport Express
#1
We got in to our rental house in Panama City Beach late tonight. The house was advertised as having WiFi. There is a Cisco router plugged in, but the network is secure and I can't find the password on any of the paperwork they sent me and left here. I thought about doing a hard reset on it, but figured the owners might not like that. I unplugged it, put it away in a desk drawer and got out my Airport Express. A couple resets and reconfiguration later, we have our own, secure WiFi network here for my MacBook, our iPhones, and my wife's iPad.

So, when it starts raining tomorrow and Sunday, we'll at least be able to stay somewhat entertained.

I purchased an AirPort Express specifically for travel such as this. It's served me well on a number of various vacations.

David,

I hear you. Airport Expresses are great little devices. The two shortcomings I have with them is its longevity and single ethernet port. In my experiences Airport Expresses only survive a couple of years. After that, they require reset after reset until its gets to the point of diminishing returns. That and I wish Apple would offer a model with two ethernet ports. A second ethernet port would increase the versatility of a Airport Express exponentially.

Mine has been in daily use since 2004. It has also travelled with me. So far, 7 years without a single problem.

Article,

You're fortunate. I can't even tell you how many of them I've gone through since their introduction. I stopped counting when the one I used with my home theater mini crapped out.
