Has Youtube changed their streaming protocols?
#1
When I wanted to download a video, I used to go to the activity window and copy the flash video resource, and then paste it to a downloads window.

Now I no longer see the flash resource.

What's happened? Do I now need some dedicated application to download Youtube videos?

Okay, I tried that, but I get this warning. Is this safe?

I used the site before, it's been mentioned here many times. Search the forum. Not sure why you get that, looks fine in Chrome I get the same warning in Chrome

I made a test with my tool, it still can download youtube videos successfully. This tool will run safely on your mac. Give it a try if you like. http://en.kioskea.net/download/download-...ad-capture

I've often used keepvid successfully in the past. Due to the recent Flashback malware, I've disabled Java on my machine (Leopard 10.5.8 on a 12" PowerBook, so no Apple updates available for me). Keepvid requires Java, so I'd have to temporarily re-enable it each time I need keepvid.

Fortunately, I've been using ClickToPlugin2.6.4 -- http://hoyois.github.com/safariextension...ktoplugin/ -- which turns Flash video into HTML5. If you control/right-click on the HTML5 video, you get a drop-down menu that lets you download the video directly as an MP4 or open it directly in QuickTime. Easier and more convenient than Keepvid. Plus, ClickToPlugin offers many more features. And it's free.
