Since this is Mountain Lion Day

DENAIR, Calif. -- Authorities say they have shot to death an 80-pound mountain lion after it took a door off its hinges and broke into a Stanislaus County home.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department officials said Thursday that deputies shot the animal while investigating a possible burglary in progress.

They say a homeowner in Denair, near Turlock, called 911 on Sunday morning after hearing a loud crash and commotion coming from inside the house.

Spokesman Royjindar Singh says deputies did not find a burglar, but spotted a female mountain lion hiding in a nearby tree.

Deputies shot the animal after it came out of the tree, deeming it a menace to public safety.

Authorities say the animal was likely trying to get away from the homeowner's dogs and panicked, then broke into the house.

Right.

Since Man has been encroaching on it's habitat, the SO should have ignored Fish and Game, and just packed up, leaving Nature to handle the situation, and let the cards fall where they may.

After all, it was just doing what mountain lions do.

Woah! I grew up in Turlock and there is no Mountain Lion habitat for at least 30 miles from Turlock.

It's all farmland. I wonder how the cat got there.

But agreed, sad they killed it.

Apparently they have the ability to pull hinge pins. I imagine that makes it a lot easier.
