I need a replacement app for TextEdit

I'd like the features TextEdit had before Lion. txt and rtf, able to add pictures, jpgs anyway. Also want the old Save & Save AS- no icloud, no versioning, etc. Suggestions please? Free would be nice but reasonable is fine. Also would be nice if it was available on the App Store.

I have Bean, never tried placing a photo.

Dropped a JPEG in, it worked great.

used Edit menu to size the photo.

I'm using Writeroom which is a lot like text edit.
But I'm still in Snow Leopard.

I thought it was just a SEG that you had it and I didn't I've been removing virus from PCs for too long - it's wilting my brain.
