iPad mico/nano SIM in iPhone?

I wonder if anyone tried to put an iPad SIM into iPhone and if they were able to get data?

specifically

iPad Mini ATT model nano SIM into an ATT iPhone 5 (and eventually later into an unlocked iPhone 5)

or

iPad 4 ATT model micro SIM into an unlocked iPhone 4s, or trimmed down and thinned into an iPhone 5 ATT/Unlocked.

I know you can't make/receive calls, but can you get data, and can you renew data plan from the iPhone?
