Delete key used to go 'back' in Safari; why'd they remove that shortcut?
#1
Subject says it all... Why would they bother removing a good keyboard shortcut like that?? I hate supporting Google, but Chrome seems better to me all the time...

for me, I would frequently be typing in a field and hit backspace quickly and it would page me back. Irritating.

Good point Kiva. There's upsides and downsides to everything!

:agree:
That poor choice for a key shortcut always was annoying. It only made sense if you would never be entering text on web pages, and that never applied for my browsing.:mad2:

it's not that much harder to type CMD- left arrow or CMD-[ is it?

This behavior of the delete key was always a windows thing in my mind...

I never knew that shortcut existed. I almost never use Safari, but when I do, I use the command -right bracket or command -left bracket keys (same as Firefox) and they have worked fine.

Mostly I use the forward/back toggle on my lovely Contour Mouse.

Wow, didn't know this would stir the pot so!

I agree that there are other shortcuts, but once you've developed muscle memory for something, it's hard to bread the habit... I know I was bitten more than once by the behavior when editing text, but it seemed infrequent enough to not be an issue. From what I can tell, as long as the cursor is actually active in a text box, the Delete shortcut won't go Back, it will delete text...

Still, I guess Buck and I are alone in missing the shortcut.

I didn't even know about that shortcut.

Bonus: still working on my antiquated setup!
