Maybe Lion/Mountain Lion is having an effect opposite of what was expected/hoped for... too.

I personally have not purchased any Mac hardware in the past few years that cannot run Snowleopard.

When I purchased these 2 15" mbps I didn't realize I had to run LION or ML on them. I wish I didn't have them.

I read an article of this subject of the falloff of PC sales and WIN8 has not gone over.

I think Lion/Mountain Lion is having exactly the effect that was expected. It's driving people to cell phones and tablets!

How are those iPhone and iPad sales?

One of us is confused, Hal. That's a report on the Christmas quarter. Why mix that old report in with one on the dismal PC sales for the first calendar quarter of this year?

To make a proper comparison, while PC sales are down nearly 20% (you have to subtract out Mac sales) in the first calendar quarter of 2013, Mac sales are up 7.5%!

It looks like Mountain Lion is a winner.

I'm glad Mac sales are up but I am planning no new purchases unless a machine breaks and it would be too expensive to repair. Even then I feel that, at this point in time, I wouldn't feel good about a 10.8 computer.

Isn't the holiday quarter generally the big sales quarter for Apple? How does a 21% decrease signify anything positive for the Mac?

Need to recall that Apple made the less than brilliant move of moving to the new iMac 2012 design at the end of October.... and had no iMacs available for a month - couldn't even pre-order. And then the 21.5" came online... and weeks later the 27"... and both with heavy backlog demand.

So - what was the number one selling single computer model in USA had next to no sales in the most important quarter of the year because of next to no availability in that quarter.

Brilliant move to say the least... But it looks cool. hate form over function when at the cost of function and reasonable practicality. No excuse to not have both practical function and exceptional form. The previous iMac design was a best seller for a reason.

btw - I grabbed the most recent apple quarterly report that I found... it's not a conspiracy. My recollection was that they were on a different fiscal calendar than most other companies so I didn't think it odd that the most recent might be their Q4.
