FU: Find my iPhone STILL not working (arghhhhhhh!)
#1
Followup from just yesterday: http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,1551810

This is becoming an obsession..

Every setting pointed out in that thread, various Apple Discussions and additional related links have been checked and are correct. Further I've reset, rebooted, updated to the latest iOS, and reconfigured via iTunes. I have deleted the iCloud account and reconnected it. I cannot figure out what else to do with the possible exception of a Restore (more on that in a minute).

Even after all that the moment either phone goes off wifi, I lose the signal. When it returns to a wifi signal that phone shows up again in Find My iPhone. If I turn off my home network, the tracking is lost. If the phone leaves an open wifi zone, the tracking is lost. We both get phone calls and SMS messages fine (not that means anything) no matter where we are. I'm getting four bars on T-Mobile, my son gets 3 bars.

My son uses an unlocked 3GS running ios 6.1.2 on the Pure Talk network (using ATT towers)
I get the same behavior from my iPhone 4 running 6.1.3 on T-mobile. So that points away from an actual phone failure and something like a wrong setting seems far more likely. As I said, Find My iPhone was working fine and then just shut down a few weeks ago.

as for a restore -- If I do that will I need to redo the jailbreak or anything to get the phone up and running on their respective networks? (in other words does it reset the APN settings?)

Any further suggestions or do I visit the genius bar on my next trip to the big city?

Do GPS functions or GPS-enabled apps work reliably on the phone, still?

I asked the same thing in the previous thread. When you're away from WiFi, does the phone know where it is? Can it find it's location on a map.

And also are you sure that you can access the internet when you're away from WiFI.

Those are two critical things that are needed in order to function, and verifying that they work would rule them out as a possible cause.

And additional thing to check is to make sure that you can reach Apple's icloud servers when away from WiFi. Do you have an iCloud email account? Can you send/receive email from it when using cellular data instead of WiFi?

He is not home currently. I will check those things as soon as I can. Would that be doable by simply turning his wifi off?

I do not have an iCloud email account but will set one up for a test.

I'm more baffled by his situation. Mine has always been somewhat crippled since I don't have cellular data on my prepaid T-mobile service. What is puzzling with mine is that it won't work unless I'm on my home network.
