[The Limo Fire] Why did it happen?
#1
What say all the pyrotechnics experts, national defense contractors, and NASA engineers who make up the forum membership as to why this tragic fire may have occurred?

Exhaust system. But that type of limo does have a lot of electrical. Of course, illegal passenger number nine could have been enough to drag the gas tank along the ground.

Portable méth lab?

(Sorry about the accent. The content-filter ate the version with the normal spelling.)

I'd rather not speculate. Too damaging to the people involved.

"The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, and the vehicle has not yet been inspected"
"The investigation was expected to take several weeks to complete"

I haven't even seen any details of what was actually burning, gasoline, something in the trunk, something in the passenger section. I'd rather not speculate.

Thanks-- was wondering if the info was out there and I'd just missed it.
Was also looking to gauge whether this is more of a common thing or more of a 'freak' accident; it's possible to list possible causes without speculating (I think....)

I wonder if any of them were smoking. Some of these synthetic fibers seem like they could burn very fast.

The story is somewhat bizarre. She was already married, one article said she was on the way to meet her husband, but they were heading to a bachelorette party? Bachelorette and husband in the same sentence?

The rear bumper was slag.

Whatever it was, that wasn't a gasoline fire.

She was recently married but was going to her family in Philippines for a second ceremony they could attend. My guess (and it is a guess) is this was just suppose to be a fun night out before she left and got called a bachelorette party as a fun name.

Tragic story. I'd be very curious to know what was used for carport, seat covers, etc. Limos are custom made and I'm betting the regulations for the construction of the interior is pretty much unregulated.

Definitely something weird here... but too many variables to speculate.

All we can be sure of is that something that wasn't supposed to oxidized very rapidly in an exothermic reaction.
