Christie under went Lapband surgery!
#1
about 2 months ago??? Just heard on the radio. Haven't searched it but must be true. He has lost 30 pounds and said he did it when he turned 50. Good luck, Christie. I have heard good and bad things about this type of surgery.

Glad to hear it. Hope he can make the necessary lifestyle changes to make the weight loss permanent. I know it can't be easy...

He looked like the kind of person where bariatric surgery was necessary. Not everyone can make 'lifestyle changes' and make it stick.

When I was diagnosed with type II diabetes I made a deliberate and immediate lifestyle change. Dropped 50 lbs so far.. I've kind of plateaued out, and need to take it to the next level. But at least I'm down to just 'a bit overweight' rather than 'obese'.

Doing all the grocery shopping helps.. I just do not buy any crap. The kids don't like it, but ... tough !

As you all know, I had gastric banding surgery almost 3 years ago (can't believe it has been that long!) I wish him the best of luck and hope he has a good team around him to help him through this journey.

As I've said over and over and over and over again: The band does not control WHAT you eat. All it does is slow down how quickly you can eat and can limit how much you eat. There are many ways to eat "around" the band and unfortunately, many people do this.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm holding at 65-70lbs down. Would like to lose another 20 or so, but that may take another 3 years. Smile

thumbs up to all who are losing weight by whatever means. I have had a girl friend that had band surgery and did great...but a man I know that comes to the pool is back to his 400 morbidly obese self after ban surgery. It worked for a while and then I guess he did the "work around".

kudos to Christie for attending to his health. he was probably also advised that this could also positively impact his political future.

For a lot of people it is a cycle that needs to be broken. Changing eating habbits isn't enough. They need exorcise. But they can't exorcise because they're morbidly obese. Anything that breaks the cycle is a good idea.

I hope it works for him. That said, I have to admit to wondering if this relates to any future professional aspirations he has (he said carefully, trying to avoid having this moved to the other side)
