Speaking of expensive college...
#1
I am looking for some sort of career training/further education or something to do this year. Be it a conference (UI/UX or web dev) or possibly some schooling of some sort. I thought, "Hey, what about a certification in something?"

I thought "Sure, I wonder how that works?"

User-Centered Design Certificate

Yeah, that might work. Four classes. Night. Yeah, that might work.
Total Cost of All Program Courses $11,475 + technology fees

That's almost $3k per course! This is a state college too.

I paid over 2000 dollars a credit for my Master's. Worth every penny.

I paid $4.50/quarter credit hour. Plus fees, etc. At State U in 1968.

And take home pay was like $53 a week for a student working a summer job and earning minimum wage. It's all relative.

So what you're saying is, they can charge that much because people who usually take the class get their employers to pay for it?

I worked construction during the summer and saved well over $1k which was enough to pay tuition and room and board. I don't remember my hourly wage...

Only 150 of America's 3,500 colleges are worth it. That's about 4%.

A lot has been written about the ballooning tuition bubble.

On the other hand, being President of a University isn't a bad job these days. Averaging half a million $ a year, the pay is quite good!

Maybe that's a big part of the high tuition problem.

I think you were being sarcastic.

Yes, check this out. It's vocational training conducted by the Sacramento City Unified School District.

The prices are breathtaking compared to what the local community college charges for similar programs.

There is no way that these students are paying for this themselves.
