[RYF] Brother HL-2270DW laser printer for $71.99 (Or possibly even less!)

Dealmac has a listing for the Brother HL-2270DW for $71.99 from newegg.com. My dislike of Brother printers is well known. However, a deal is a deal and this one happens to be a solid find and pretty similar to a deal I saw just a couple of weeks ago. (I think it was a couple of weeks ago)

The HL-2270DW has a solid set of features including speedy printing, USB, ethernet and wifi, automatic duplexing, a reasonable amount of RAM and a fairly small footprint. It's about the same size as the HP Laserjet P2035n. Definitely lots of bang for the buck and worth a looksie if you're in the market for a dedicated black and white network friendly laser printer.

Bear in mind, you need to use a coupon code and V.me by Visa to get the HL-2270DW at that price from newegg.com. However, Amazon.com has this printer for $79.99. Staples.com, who has it on sale for $99.99, will price match amazon.com and a few other approved retailers. That means, you can get it for nearly the same price as listed at newegg.com or actually _much_ less if you break out an appropriate staples.com coupon or cash earnings from Staples Rewards.

FWIW, I've also seen Brother B&W laser all-in-ones for solid prices recently. I can't remember if the ones I saw offer the same features as this particular printer, i.e. networking and automatic duplexing.

I've had the MFC7840 wifi printer for about 4 years, and it's been a workhorse! Wifi spoils you. I'm tempted to get this one to use in separate home office! Thanks for the info!

I'm surprised Robert M doesn't like Brother laser printers. We absolutely lover ours and have convinced our entire extended family to buy them as well. None of us have had a
ny problem with them.

I think he had some bad experience with a COLOR laser printer from what I remember. I never used one of those. Monochrome Brother laser printers are pretty solid. One of mine died when I used a defective cartridge. In fact I am not sure if the cartridge was defective, it could have been user error. I am not sure I pushed it all the way and I started the printer. a gear jammed and broke. Same thing happened to PeterB with a generic cartridge. he and I exchanged several PM on this topic. Other than that the printer was solid. The replacement is also great, I just have to make sure I don't make the same mistake again

To clarify: I've had bd experiences with two Brother inkjet all-in-ones (MFC 3820cn and MFC 5840CN) and a color laser printer (HL-4040cn). All had serious reliability issues and the color laser had reliability and toner usage issues. By design, the color laser used color toner even if you've set it in black and white only mode. I found out the hard way and there is nothing you can do about it. Very poor design in that regard.

My parents have the HL-2270DW and it's on the flakey side. I've had to reset it multiple times. I brought it to my place for troubleshooting and upon powering it up, it caused my office UPS go "NNNNNNNNNNNNN". The HL-2270DW was neither connected to nor plugged into the same outlet as the UPS. Disconnected the Brother entirely and the "NNNNNNNNNNNNN" went away. This might be due to the old wiring in my apartment, though. Still, it made me raise an eyebrow.

However, despite the aforementioned concerns, a deal is a deal. This is a good one and it can be a killer deal if you play the price matching, coupon and rewards game. As a result, based on my parents experience - they're happy with HL-2270DW - and that it can be had for a killer price, I'd give a tentative go on the HL-2270DW. I haven't had to reset it for them in quite a while. As a result, I can recommend it to that extent. I know other people in the forum are very happy with their Brother printers. So, like I said, a deal is a deal, even if I ain't fond of the brand.

FWIW, I wouldn't pay full price or a somewhat discounted price for _any_ Brother printer. In this case, it's a significant discount. Play the price matching game and break out more discounts and you can get it for a _killer_ price. I sent this info to a friend and he just did that and got the printer for less than $50.00 shipped. He had staples price match amazon and then broke out a staples coupon and used some staples rewards earnings.

Even I'd consider a HL-2270DW if I could get it for less than $50.00 shipped. At that price, I could use it for a year and, toss it when it breaks, and still feel I got my money's worth out of it.

Another thumbs up for Brother B&W lasers. I have three in my house and don't need any more.

I did have a gear break on the sheet feeder of my 7820N. Brother sold me the replacement part pleasantly and inexpensively over the phone, but whie I was waiting for it to arrive I applied a temporary fix with a wad of Mighty Putty.

That was six years ago, I think. Printer is still running strong, with at least one new (generic) drum over that time. Haven't installed the OEM gear yet, I have I a strict policy of not fixing what ain't busted.

LOL! Love the idea of Brother products - I really do - but I can't get past the issues I've had with them. But, like I said, a deal is a deal especially if you can drop that price via price matching and other discounts.
