OT: Late night Treking. "Message in a Bottle" episode

Season 4 of Star Trek Voyager was quite a treat. Not only was there new Federation eye candy ship to look at, the dialogue was pretty funny. This is one of the more engaging episodes in the Voyager series so far.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that one ... multi-vector assault mode, baby!

There really are a bunch of good Voyager eps... I think the series gets criticized unfairly.

If you like the Doctor's character, one of my favorites is "Living Witness".

I am starting that episode right now.

The first season, IMHO, ranks as the worst Trek series, hands down. After that, it really picked up!
Unloading Kes, and warping out of range of the Kazon ( the unimaginatively written "bad dirt people aliens" ), certainly helped.

The Kazon were unworthy of assimilation, that's saying something. Big Grin

I wouldn't agree about the first season though. There were some standouts: "Emanations", "Ex Post Facto", and "Faces" were all pretty good.

And yes, I was kind of glad they dumped Kes' character, though I also felt like they treated her a bit unfairly... I don't think it was the actress' fault that they did what they did... she did a very nice job in the episode "Warlord".

we're on a similar Voyager trek. i just watched the Vis a Vis episode last night. although i liked the Voyager series from the start i do think the writing and acting got noticeably better with season 4 and Seven of Nine. except for the writing out of Kes which was a bit botchy. i actually kind of liked Kes. Neelix's character, OTOH, is all over the map and annoying.

Neelix was just a bad idea.

The IDEA wasn't so bad... it's just the execution they screwed up.

I can prove it... they failed to execute him for being annoying.

Apart from just being annoying.... the essence of what didn't work about that character was that he would bombard the captain with completely trivial nonsense in the middle of some sort of crisis, and any time she didn't just tell him to f off in so many words was an inconsistency with her own character.
They usually tried to justify his "importance" somehow (crew morale etc.) but it just didn't work.
