[guy stuff] Shaving - I'm doin' it wrong
#1
I haven't ever been happy with my (about a year old) electric shaver and so got out a fresh Sensor Excell disposable from the drawer and some new foam shave cream.

First day was perfect but by Day 2, certainly Day 3 it's no better than using the electric and really drags now, with red marks on my neck. I thought I used to get at least 3 good shaves? I did the "arm shrop" wiping the blade on my arm afterwards each time.

Dunno that I want to commit to learning how to use a straight razor but would rather try an old style dual edge first next? I guess I need to relearn my expectations here and options.

Maybe try using a gel rather than a foam.

I shave every day with a 3-blade razor and Edge gel. I can usually get about a month out of the razor before I notice it's not working very well. And I can grow a full beard in about 3 weeks.

not a fan of them disposables. I find them out of balance, lacking weight.
I use the not disposable Sensor.
I use to use Edge, it did a great job. But the can rusted as I don't shave every day, and left rings on the tub.

Get a shower mirror for shaving. The steam really helps a lot.
I changed to a tube cream based non foam. It's an Arbonne product my wife gets for free.
But I'd bet TJs, Nivea or Neutrogena tube shave cream would do the job; or any of the rather high pri$ed spreads.

Then a good non-alch after shave balm. Neutro, Nivea, etc. I seldom have red rivers any more.

Bathrooms aren't the greatest environs for blades .

+1 on gel instead of foam.

+1 on a warm face/beard - that may be why some have suck such luck shaving in the shower.

You need the new Tritium Infused blades. After three weeks of use the hairs start falling out by themselves.

mmmmm, where can I get them?
Are they TSA approved?
Will my face light my way home?
Will the kids be scared at Halloween?

Deck,

Did you rinse the blade head regularly while shaving? I'm not talking dipping the head of the razor into a bowl of water and swishing it. I mean having the water running and swishing it under the faucet. I found this was the only way to clean the heads of a cartridge razor. 'course, I also found the Sensor Excel cartridges resulted in an inferior shave to the plain ol' original Sensor cartridges and neither was as good as the Sensor3 cartridges. That and I've yet to find a foam that can compete with a quality shave cream. Even gels don't do the job as well.

There are a slew of threads about shaving and shaving with an ol' fashioned double-edge razor. Definitely worth a read. Although I've always used a quality shave cream, I switched to a DE razor many months ago and haven't looked back. My initial DE razor is a cheap model I bought from Amazon.com. It was quickly replaced with a nice Edwin Jagger Barleycorn razor. Although I get a very nice, close baby-bottom shave with both, the difference in build quality is dramatic. The Edwin Jagger Barleycorn is a much nicer razor.

I use a triple blade razor from Gillette and have been very happy. Use after shower for best results. I've had it for my entire adult life. I think my grandfather gave it to me. I just buy blades at the grocery store as needed. I just checked and it is called the mach3 turbo.
