I had a long period of research with a friend for her trip to South Africa. She owns an iphone and a 2010 macbook, but wanted something in between for this trip. She has bad eyesight and working on an iphone is out of the question. We decided on buying a new tool - not easy for her - she HATES spending money on redundancy, but she was just thrilled with her ipad mini for this trip and will use it often in the future.
it was just the right balance of power and size and readability...

Isn't there quite an age (and height) difference between you too? I hope the relationship lasts. Have you met the parents and the rest of the extended family?
