Best bargain hard drive/SSD for MBP 2008 (SATA, not II interface)
#1
My 2008 MBP is still chugging along just fine except its corrupt hard drive, so I'm going to put a new HD/SSD in it and permanently attach it to my TV. While an SSD wouldn't be necessary, it seems as though I should be able to find a bargain (but reliable) 128GB SSD or so for under $100 (it has a second HD in the optical drive space for storage) which would be worth the few extra bucks over a standard HD to improve response time.

Anyone have a favorite or a good suggestion? I'd love to go with a OWC SSD but I can't justify the price given I'm not sure how I'll use this SSD once the MBP dies (or I just decide to get rid of it down the road).

Get a good SSD and take it to the next Mac when this one dies. Don't toss a working SSD out with a dead Mac.

Well, see, that all depends on the next Mac. Many current Macs don't use 2.5" drives. You could do external, but who needs an external 120GB drive?

Still there:

If you'd consider a spinny hard drive, the 320GB Western Digital Blue or Black drives are very nice too.

120 GB SSDs make great external boot drives -- especially via USB 3.

Except, I already have a 256GB SanDisk Extreme in my 2010 MBP that will continue to get moved into my production machine until it gets replaced, so there may be NO "replacement" for this machine and/or SSD and, if it's still working when I retire it, if I'm not replacing the machine, the SSD may just get sold along with the machine, though its age will make it a "bargain" buy for whomever acquires it, so a high-performance SSD won't add much value to it, thus my desire for a 'bargain SSD.'

fwiw, just 45 days until Black Friday;
A quality 120GB SSD (eg: SanDisk SDSSDX120GG25) should be available for <$70.

This hypothetical new Mac, that apparently won't exist for the OP anyway, will likely already have an internal SSD preinstalled. External boot SSD is likely less important for most people with a system already booting from an internal SSD.

This seems like a good deal, and gets great reviews, enough so that I'm considering getting one myself...
