Replacing glass screen on MBP
#1
A friend brought me her 13" MBP Mid-2009 with a cracked screen, everything works fine, just has a cracked screen. I have never replaced one and ifixit calls it "very difficult". Looking through their directions, it doesn't look that difficult, just time consuming. The only hard part looks like the removal of the old screen because of the glue.

Anyone done this fix?

This is not the same friend that showered with her MBP, BTW.

You need less trying friends.

I got the glass cracked on my MBP a couple months ago; I'm living with it for now because I need the data in this device and my contracted repair service will take a long time to resolve it.

I have no interest in attempting this repair myself. If it ranks above replacing the HDD in an iBook in difficulty I have no interest in ever doing that kind of work again myself.

Is it the glass that is cracked, or is the LCD broken? Big difference.

I have done a dozen or so screen repairs. You are going to need new glass either way, it is nearly impossible to get the outer glass off without cracking it.

With an older machine like that you can probaly find a used screen assembly on ebay for a reasonable cost.

It is the glass, not the screen. I was looking at ebay for a complete assembly. The used ones are garbage with broken hinges and the new ones are more than the computer is probably worth.

Ah, then the glass is pretty inexpensive. Just a lot of time with a heat gun and hoping to not melt the rubber and plastic.
