Mavericks on a DIY Fusion
#1
I have a Macbook pro and I took out the optical drive and installed an ssd and have been running a DIY Fusion drive. Has anyone else done this and upgraded from 10.8.5 to Mavericks? I'm torn between just upgrading or backing up my pictures, wiping, and doing it all from scratch.

I originally followed instructions a lot like this: http://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/...drive.html

I guess 10.8.3 enabled it for no factory drives? Regardless I did all the terminal tricks to get mine working a year ago. That's what I'm talking about.

I'll be doing it this weekend or early next week.

I'm thinking of blowing away the whole thing, recreating it and then migrating from a backup... There's a slight chance that with the instructions that I used may have created a Core Storage volume without the Fusion benefits and I might as well take the opportunity to do it right.

As for how well Mavericks works on that kind of volume, why would it work any differently?

Thanks, sorry if I made it sound like I wanted to know how well it works... I assume it works just as well or better. Maybe I should just do a whole backup...

ALWAYS have a clone handy before doing a major OS upgrade.
