What have I done to deserve this pain in getting a stupid printer to work?

Yes, I installed that last night and it didn't work for some reason. Also tried the 10.6 CUPS driver, that the internets say should work otherwise, as well.

GRRRR.

You also might try resetting the printing system:

Stick with it, Z. We had a similar PITA moving to 10.9 with an old Canon i9900 but finally got it working. Problem is, I can't remember what, if anything, we did to restore full function (it serves as our shared printer for 3 MacBooks). I'll rack my brain to see if I can recall anything. I know for 10.7 I had to steal the PPD out of my 10.6 install to restore full functionality but I didn't do that for 10.9.

edit: stoopit typos

I got through it last night. Pulled the 10.6 driver and got it installed. Why Canon doesn't link to that one for 10.7-9, I don't know. And why it's not included in the 200mb Canon Driver download set, I also don't know.

They want more $ out of us for a new printer.

Well joke's on them, we bought quality printers! That'll show 'em! As an anecdote, my Mom is still using a 13 year old HP 970cxi. Next time build a piece of junk, eh?

Paging Epson...
