That's just stupid... The walmart claim - not you s-t.

They are spening money expanding their retail presence - the soon to be working poor that they will employ is just a side effect.

A truer claim, "we are spending $250B in the coming 10 years to enhance our bottom line"

I get so tired of people ragging on walmart and their practices.... especially claiming they pay well enough. I recently read an article that showed they pay better than Target and a few others, yet Walmart gets the flak. How about giving them credit for providing jobs to millions of employees that have few if any skills. What's this country coming to... as an example the idiot fast-food employees that want $15 and hour. How much do our soldiers earn? I have NO connection with Walmart.

Walmart has annual revenue approaching half a trillion dollars. I'm sure that based on their regular spending alone, what with staff turnover and opening and closing stores, that quarter trillion - less than 5% of their revenue in the next decade - will just be part of their regular expenses and not really that significant an "investment."

just to clarify: they claim those will be MANUFACTURING jobs. Something like they bring the manufacturing back. Probably one can find the ad on youtube. If these are indeed manufacturing jobs, even though they may no be the best paid manufacturing jobs in USA, that still means something positive IMHO. Our economy was too much service oriented for too long.

I am not siding with WM here. I don't shop there, except maybe one every 2-3 years when I really need an item that they carry. I also try to avoid shopping at Target, but sometimes you have no choice.

My main problem with Walmart was a total lack of health benefits for their employees. Hoping new changes in Washington helps.

Walmart has been excellent in terms of eco-friendly policies.

And the original Walmarts were serving locations that simply could not get modern products.

It's the Capitalistic Walmart where they own the economies of some towns that's Evil.

There've been some pretty good jokes about Walmart outsourcing music jobs to Canada...

The Walmart* first level associates that don't work full time typically cost $6000 in State and Federal entitlements per employee. It is 8% to 20% of the employees at every supercenter. They are the largest private employer in the US, getting hundreds of millions in subsidies every year. Hire them as full time workers so they get benefits and pay them enough that they don't qualify for sub-poverty level benefits like food stamps, etc., and I will stop complaining about that part of their business (and only that part).

If this is true, I question why the sudden interest in creating rather than destroying American jobs. But I would certainly welcome it if sincere.
