Does anyone else think the Snowboard Cross is insane?

This just screams injury and maybe worse. I normally don't follow this stuff so it's the first time I'm seeing this. Already a couple have collided and gone down hard.
Any forumites do this?

yeah, but I like it a lot better than freestyle - each person essentially doing the same tricks over and over again.

It is almost an equivalent to Super G on the ski side.

It is not insane, it just requires a specific, well honed, skill set....

I realized why I only snapped cross country skis on in my youth after I saw Franz Klammer win the Olympic downhill in 1976.

I should clarify-I mean when they go off in a group like that. With all they have to concentrate on individually, it seems the proximity just begs for disaster.

People - Snowboard Cross is a race down the mountain with a bunch of crazy snowboarders...

It's NOT like downhill skiing. It's more like a cross of downhill and short track skating.

The Hernandez woman had a *really* horrible crash! I can't imagine how crazy and dangerous it will be when there are six boarders on the course at the same time.

I really like it. Much more entertaining than watching someone race a clock. Can you imagine watching a car race run one car at a time?
