F/U to cat protecting 4 year old boy from dog

I had a cat like that once--full of spirit. I let him outside one morning as usual, he looked at me kind of odd as he was walking out and we never saw him again. I assume he moved to Vegas or something.

Nah, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Even cats know that.

My cat is boss of the block. He has all the other dogs and cats in order. Someone actually shot him in the head with a pellet gun...point blank...and he just shrugged it off. He came inside that evening for food then jumped onto my lap, which was odd. I noticed something on his head but I assumed it was a claw or tree sap or something. Then he was a bit more forceful, actually acting like he wanted me to pet him (he's more like a cactus than a cat so that was unusual) and that was when I realized there was a pellet in his head, between his eyes. I pulled it out with pliers and he didn't flinch. Afterward and rubbed against me, meowed and went on his way. He's still king of his jungle after 10 years.

As necessary as it was, it does sadden me that the dog had to be put down.

I don't know that couldn't have prevented this. I also don't know the owner was any more responsible than letting it out off leash, or that the dog somehow escaped.

That dog's behavior wasn't normal as we know it, and I'd like to know why it attacked.

Third time this dog had gone after the same kid. He finally connected.
