Idiotic school administrator, needs a history lesson.

Mr. Barron, 59, was placed on paid administrative leave almost two weeks ago after an assistant principal sat in on his history class while Mr. Barron was discussing the Jim Crow racial segregation laws. As part of the instruction, he showed a video of how white people back then used blackface to imitate African Americans during what they considered entertainment in the 1800s.

Not much info here but just the fact that he took the initiative to educate beyond the generic lesson plan suggests that he's an above-average educator.

Quite a lot of information, but not from the administration. The article makes the administrators out to be the PC Police in this case.

Those who fail to accurately learn history are, of course, doomed to repeat it.

During Mr. Barron's "leave" he was not permitted to attend his retirement celebration (a districtwide salute to all retiring teachers). Great way to finish out a career.

I'm surprised he did not just resign, that is what usually occurs. That way the accused protects their pension. If the are fired for certain causes, they can lose their pension.

Hopefully the AP won't be around schools long enough to get a pension.

Ironically, the administer who did this probably did so out of fear of backlash from the community, rather than moral misgivings about the blackface video. It was a dumb decision, but sometimes schools can't win for trying. Of course, as others have already observed, it's possible that there is more to this story than what was reported.

On a related note, my wife and I watched "There's Something About Mary," last night and just howled at the politically incorrect humor in it. I don't think a movie like that could be released today without a lot of backlash from many different offended groups.

You don't get to be in administration by being a good teacher, and therein lies the problem with our school system.

The admin's POV is entirely missing from the story, other than they think something objectionable happened. They can't talk to the media about this so those pieces of the story are unknown. It isn't known if the teacher was being observed as part of routine review, which would be odd two weeks before his retirement, or if there had been other complaints.

Based on fb comments with the story, the teacher appears to have a lot of community support, I hope he has a good attorney too who can get this straightened out satisfactorily and fairly to all concerned.

Based on some of the comments, it seems that the AP and the teacher may have had issues, and the AP walked in to the class to make the teacher look bad in front of the students.

Unfortunately, this happens.
