An iPhone 4 for $1000+ on ebay?
#1
that is the question. my brother put his IP4 up on ebay hoping to get maybe $100. an hour before closing it sat at $45. then a war broke out between 3 buyers, then just 2 and the auction closed at $1011. no one who bid on it had an ebay rating/ranking which was the first source of discomfort for my brother. his first thought is it was a prank - the internet equivalent of calling and asking if your refrigerator is running.

the buyer is in Spain. my brother did specify US sale only. what kind of game might be being played here?

Scammers or reseller. Either way. He should cancel the sale.

Doubt it is a reseller. Who could make a profit on something ten times the going price? Scammer?

If PayPal, there should be some protection.

Carm, great link! All that is mentioned in the story are iPhones, no other brand. I worry about my daughter getting hurt because she may not give up her iPhone readily in spite of my admonition to do so.

Scary business. Samsung Galaxies are mentioned, too.

Does Apple offer a way to kill your phone if it's stolen?

You can do a remote wipe and your Apple ID is needed to reactivate the 'Phone.

Unless there is some very low lever workaround, the 'Phone is essentially dead.

Remote wipe can be done on iCloud.com or on another iOS device connected to the internet using the app "find my iphone". On iCloud.com click on find my iphone icon, select your device and three options are listed. "Play Sound" "Lost Mode " Erase iPhone". The last two require Apple ID to unlock it. You can send a message to iphone in lost mode. Also works on iPad and latest iPod touch 5.
