OS X Yosemite: Apple's biggest Mac redesign in years

[Posted earlier on my What Happened? thread]
I just took at look at Yosemite on the Apple website. To which I would add: Is this 'translucency' going to be controllable? /Mr Lynn PS When I was young(er), when I heard the word 'Yosemite' I thought it was spelled 'Yosemadee' or something. And when I saw the correct word, I though it was pronounced 'Yoze-mite'. Took me a long time to connect the two. But then, I lived on the East Coast.

As in iOS, Yosemite seems to be moving toward reduced contrast in visual elements.
This makes things harder to read for older eyes. I hope Apple realizes this and provides the ability to increase contrast. The flattening of icons and adding of transparency reduces the number and intensity of visual cues we have to decipher an image. Again, this is hard on us older folks. I have complained many times that Apple seems to be designed by young people using large monitors under perfect lighting. They need to get out in the field, in realistic conditions, lousy lighting, small monitors -- and they need some design consultants who don't see or hear perfectly. My tuppence.

I would give up all the swooshing, drop shadows, bounce, gravity, and visual effects for quicker response time, no delays in things like scrolling, and solid, reliable screen refresh.
Once I have seen a visual effect a dozen times, I want to turn it off and get on with life.

So far the only disappointment I have with Yosemite is the flattening of the icons.
I have no problem with visual acuity. It's just the aesthetic. I love the look of 3D graphics. The lickable icons. The very realistic look on a 2D screen, and the ability to make highly detailed graphics with reflections, depth, and sheen. I saw it first on a Mac, have never seen it on a PC, though it may exist, and for me, reminds me how far the OS has come. This was the difference for me between 9 and X. 9 is… quaint. I'd like to be able to turn Flat off. Won't happen, though. Other than that, I really like the translucency. It's the new 3D. It will occasionally be a problem when text is lost on the background. It's easily dealt with. I don't expect it to get in the way of my getting on with life. If it did, I'd have bigger problems in life that a change in an OS.

It would be interesting to find out if the ability to push photos, videos and texts from iOS to OSX has reached some kind of automaticity. In Mavericks on down, without third party intervention, doing this is impossible.
