My mom is on my sister's Verizon plan and is happy with an old flip phone. In fact, the simpler the phone, the better for her. But she wants to drop her land line and use the cell phone with the number she's had since the 70's. She's been getting lots of wrong numbers, telemarketing calls, and surveys. So, I'd like to find as simple a phone as I can with call blocking features. If it takes a smart phone to have call-blocking, that's what I'll get her.

Is her cell number on the do-not-call list? That's the first step.

If you tell us what the current phone she has is we can tell you whether it has this ability.
Otherwise most likely you should be able to log into your account online to block specific numbers.

The Do Not Call List is a joke. It shouldn't be but, it is. I get 4 ~ 10 calls a day and, both my phone numbers have been on the DNC list since its' inception. I've also added both numbers again about a year ago on the off chance that they were somehow removed (or "timed out").
Groups like AARP have offers from time to time on "Senior friendly" phones that I expect would be simple to operate. You might want to check their website.
