Not mentioned during today's announcements, Apple has quietly removed the venerable iPod classic from its mobile music player lineup, paring down the company's offerings to the iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle.

I would imagine some refurbs will still be there once in a while. I would grab one soon if you want it.
I don't like this decision at all! :nono:

Ive got a 15GB 3rd gen that doesnt work even after battery replacement. THink I have the dock and the wired clip on remote as well. Also a 4Gb 3rd gen nano still running strong.
I used the big iPod as a portable firewire drive for awhile even. Its huge. And heavy.
I have no idea it it works with 10.6.8 via USB or firewire.
Im sure people still use them, but I dont see a market for them anymore since everyone has a smart phone -- with things like Pandora and iTunes radio -- meh.

I mentioned the dropping of the Classic earlier today in another thread,
I'll add- don't count too heavily on snagging a refurb. They are few and far between.
Some retailers will still have then brand new, but that's $250.
If these were selling well, Apple wouldn't have dropped them from the lineup. I agree with jdc that streaming has reduced the need for carrying all your music with you, and hence, the market for the Classic.
It's pricey but I may grab one. My Classic is only 80G. I like having all my music on a portable device even though I have (for now) unlimited data.
And finally, with the 6 and 6Plus having 128G, and iTunes having the ability to sync music at 128K, the Classic is a true niche product.
If you really want one, better get it soon.

Snow Leopard is the gateway to the App Store and purchasing apps and upgrading to 10.9. That's probably the only reason it's still available.
What would be the best place to buy an iPod Classic at this time?
