Really liking the new U2 album plus some links

Listened to it a couple of times yesterday and listening to it right now.

Very different from No Line on the Horizon (thankfully).

Here's a track by track guide of the new album courtesy of Rolling Stone:

And here's an open letter from Bono on U2's website directed to the fans:

Of note, he points out that U2 were paid by Apple (I've read reports of around $30 million, but I think that's just an educated guess) and that there may be even more new music sooner than we think, "Songs of Experience."

I still haven't been able to listen to it. It shows "purchased" but I can't download it.

I ran it thru a format converter (to mp3) so i could listen in my car.

So far, very familiar sounding (breaking no ground) but enjoyable, yes.

You have to go to your iTunes Music collection and download it from iTunes by clicking on the "Purchased" and choose "Download All". Funky and clunky, but there you go.

I listened to the first 3 tracks last night before bed. Not bad. Hopefully, it will grow on me. Great marketing to give it away free to everyone on iTunes - if it worked as seamlessly as they said in the keynote.

I think Bono's voice is spent. The last couple of times I listened to him it sounded like he had laryngitis, but now suspect that he's just stretched his chords to the breaking point.

you know whose vocal cords are spent?

Ian Astbury from The Cult.

he cannot hit any of his trademark high/long notes, and when he does sing, he sounds out of breath the whole time.

tis a shame.

From my U2.com newsletter:

The physical release next month is accompanied by a 24-page booklet. A deluxe, gatefold double album, contains an acoustic session of songs from the album and four additional tracks.
