Word under Rosetta chokes on some files...
#1
Well, I love my new macbook, but this kinda stinks..

we have to use word at work for these 8-15 page forms with lots of form fields, etc. Under Rosetta, word chokes big-time. I have one document that word absolutely won't print. Freezes every time.

Looks like M$ isn't planning on doing anything anytime soon:

It's too bad that word doesn't run at least close to the speed as my 1.33 G4....oh well..

I just had Word V.X crash on my G4 933 running Panther while doing a one-page save!

Probably not Word's fault, too many programs open and not enough memory (640 megs).

We have weak single-processor intel mac minis at work, with 512 memory (I advised our unofficial IT administrator/computer buyer not to leave us underpowered by going cheap on RAM but go figure) and we're required to run MS Word. It sucks. I do far better running it natively on my Powerbook. We just missed a chance to get Power PC Minis, too, which would have been my preference, considering what applications we use most. Namely, Word.

Can you save as a PDF fromthe print dialog and then print the resulting PDF from Preview?

Can I suggest OpenOffice?

I haven't used Word for 3 years now. It was tough the first couple years, and yes, you do have issues if you need to share heavily formatted files with others using Word... But if you convert all your OS X fonts for X11 and really make the effort to use OpenOffice, esp. if you can take advantage of the ready PDF generation to share just PDF versions of the documents, then you'll be happier for it in the long run.

it freezes when I try to print....though it doesn't do it with every file..

I'll check out openoffice...it would be so nice to ditch word...

So it freezes even trying to make a PDF?

I hate Turd anyway. But I feel for you! Good luck.

ya,, freezes during the print dialoge...ugh..

looks like it's one of the only files that does that, which is good. It'll be OK, but if anybody out there is looking for performance out of word, it'll be a while..
