Best thermometer?
#1
I realize this may be one of those items that are all kind of the same, but thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone here has a thermometer they're really excited about. Doesn't matter whether digital or.... uh analog? Just as long as it's accurate (easy to read in low light would be nice too.) Need it for monitoring the temp in basement and checking tenant apartment to make sure the furnace is cutting it.
Thx.

They all pretty much suck, but this is the one our family has been using the last couple years. I wouldn't bet my life on its accuracy, but it's about the best I've found:

http://www.amazon.com/Braun-Thermoscan-T...B001FWXKMM

Get some extra plastic sleeves for the sensor.

Sorry...just realized I misread your post. Wrong type of thermometer. But maybe my response will be helpful to SOMEONE.

You know, if that one sucks, it might be a handy feature if the little one gets something lodged in his/her ear.

Non-contact infrared thermometer. On sale all the time at Harbor Freight and probably your local hardware store (Menards had them on sale around Christmas, HF was still cheaper). Point the laser dot where you want to measure the temperature.

What JB said... we have a couple, not from HF, but from other online cheapo sources, that work OK, IOW we're not excited about 'em, but for $10-$20 ea, they give an accurate enough approximation of the desired temps... pretty sure they're close enough for government work... similar to this... Arctic Star , only on sale for about half the price... as an example

For a non-contact I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Nubee-Temperature-...ome-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1420778792&sr=1-1&keywords=non-contact+infrared+thermometer

It's cheaper than HF.

The one Matt listed is similar to one of my monitors and works well, big difference is mine does both inside
and out. You need to get something that records hi/low so you'll know what's going on with the furnace.

If it is all the same building get indoor/ outdoor. With 2 external and put 1 in basement
and the other in apartment. that way can check from your chair.

amazon
I have old Oregon Scientific that can have 3 external remotes on different channels.

Should be an easy choice. Matt's recommendation has your name all over it.
