Battery recall--so now I have a very fast Mac Plus
#1
It seems that Apple's battery exchange web site is still FUBAR. I couldn't believe it.

I called AppleCare, where the recording says very specifically that the AppleCare rep can't help you--you must use the web site.

Screw this. I called 1 Infinite Loop directly, and found someone who was happy to help. She got me through this, and I have an order number now for the new one.

4 to 6 weeks, maybe longer is the official story. So thanks to Apple not paying attention to its suppliers (this wouldn't have happened at Lexus), I have a nice 12" computer that's rooted to my desk for the next couple of months, with wall power as its only source.

Gee, Apple, if I had wanted a desktop computer, I would have bought a desktop computer.

It is unfathomable to me that Apple would not use the retail stores to help this situation. Sure, it might take some work--but Apple has a few million customers to satisfy. As they say, desperate times call for desperate measures. It just goes to show--they don't care any more than any other company you might deal with.

6 weeks, huh. Unacceptable in my book. Imagine, folks, if your car was recalled and they kept your car for 6 weeks.

What's the matter--you don't like anyone talking the facts of the matter when those facts put your pet company and the reason for your life in a bad light?

Is your current battery not working at all?

I agree that six weeks would be unacceptable.

I also agree that devotion to Apple's products would help how one views the company after this.

not that the whole battery thing doesnt suck or whatever...but im guessing the reason its gonna take that long is that the batteries are no longer made

so they have to be brought back into production?

So you think Lexus has millions of some proprietary but essential part laying around? Apple could set up the distribution channel to do things more quickly, but they don't have the parts.

Further, did your 'Book battery just stop working when the recall happened? Back up your data and go on with your life. A resourceful guy like you could do very well for himself if his battery went kaplooey during the 4-6 week wait.

It works.

However, I have a wife and children. I have no desire to subject them to this thing possibly catching the house on fire.

Apple says, remove the battery. When it comes to the threat of fire in my home, I take it seriously.

Should my house burn down because of my using a known faulty battery, I suspect the insurance company would decline coverage. Thanks, but no.

How long have you been using the battery? The risk is no higher now than it was before.

You make it sound like a B Grade local news story.
